TRANSCRANIAL MAGNETIC STIMULATION (TMS)

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a safe therapeutic method based on the effect of magnetic impulses of different frequencies on certain parts of the brain.

TMS is an alternative treatment for several mental and neurological disorders, including those resistant to drug therapy.

TMS therapy has been officially approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), known for its strict requirements, and approved for use by the European Committee for Health, included in the clinical protocols of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) in the UK, as well as in clinical protocols approved by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. TMS therapy is widely available and recommended in many leading countries of the world.

TMS is also one of the main methods of choice in the United States and Europe for the treatment of PTSD.

How does TMS work?

The therapeutic effect of TMS is caused by the procedure's effect on the neurotransmitter systems of the brain, which stimulates an ion exchange in neurons and increases neuroplasticity.

How to start treatment?

Before starting TMS therapy, it is necessary to consult a neurologist/psychiatrist and have the results of an EEG examination, in some cases, an MRI examination of the brain is required.

How does a course of therapy take place in our clinic?

  • 1

Before the procedure, your doctor will select the necessary cap size according to your parameters to mark the stimulation zone.

  • 2
The determination of your motor sensitivity threshold will then be accomplished through the observation of a slight twitch in the fingertips.
  • 3

Then doctor will adjust the device to treat a particular disorder.

  • 4
The next step is the procedure itself, which lasts up to 40 minutes. You may feel light jolts of magnetic waves directed to your head, unpleasant sounds in your ears, which will stop immediately after the procedure.
